Christine Jorgensen

Christine Jorgensen became widely known in the United States in the 1950’s for having sex reassignment surgery and transitioning from male to female. Born on 1926 in the Bronx, New York, Jorgensen knew that she identified as female at an early age.  She transitioned to female after serving in WWII where she traveled to Denmark for hormone therapy and surgeries. She wrote to her family, “I am still the same old Brud, but, my dears, nature made the mistake I have had corrected. And now I am your daughter.”
