Recy Taylor

Born  to sharecroppers on December 31, 1919 in Abbeville, AL, Recy Corbitt, became Recy Taylor in 1941 when she married. On September 3, 1944 she was abducted by seven white men and then beaten and raped by six of them. Despite her ability to identify her rapists, having witnesses to her kidnapping, and having some of the perpetrators confess to the crime, two separate all -white all -male juries failed to indict any of the men involved.
